The oil company OMV received the last license from the New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to initiate a three-well drilling program in the Taranaki Basin on the west coast of North Island.

The agency also concluded that there are no risks to the marine environment from activities already carried out in 11 OMV-operated wells in the same region.

The company is still awaiting an additional license required to drill a well in the Great South Bay, on the south east coast of South Island.
