There is a consensus among health professionals that smoking is bad for the health. But the damage could be greater if the cigarette has illegal origins. This is what was shown in a test last year conducted by expert, Edmundo Felipe Braun of the Sao Paulo Police Academy. In an analysis of components of at least 20 brands on the black market, pieces of string, sand, insect parts, weeds and their seeds, and plastic were found.

Also found were tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide contents above levels permitted by the National Agency for Sanitary Vigilance (ANVISA). And that’s not all: the report confirmed the presence of two types of insecticide, endosulfan and permethrin, which are band in Brazil.
