The number of adult smokers has dropped in recent decades. However, the launch of flavored cigarettes - with flavors like mint and chocolate - has attracted younger consumers. The data is part of a survey of the non-governmental organization Alliance for Tobacco Control.

Members of NGO want Brazil to follow the examples of the United States and Canada, where the use of these additives has been banned. The discussion is currently subject of a public consultation on the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA).
