The cigarette is the product that is most falsified in Brazil, according to data released on copying, falsification and counterfeiting by the Ministry of Justice. This year, seizures increased 32% to 4.52 million packages - not including the months of November and December. After cigarettes, the most popular items, in order, are fuel, computer equipment and beverages.

According to the report, total seizures of counterfeit goods will reach R$1.7 billion this year, 34% more than in 2010. In six years, the value of goods seized by inspection agencies tripled. However, the effort seems small given the estimates of loss from the counterfeits: R$30 billion in taxes, based on the government's own calculations.
