President Rousseff signed a bill approved by Congress, which prohibits smoking in enclosed places across the country, whether public or private. The new legislation changed the text that allowed the operation of so-called "fumodromos” (smoking rooms) separated from other spaces.

The law also includes restrictions on tobacco advertising, increases taxes on the product and made it mandatory to increase the space for warnings about the dangers of smoking on cigarette packs.
