The creation of the Marine Environmental Protection Area of Ilha Grande Bay, off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro has been postponed for one month so it will take place in late February. A meeting between the State Secretary of Environment, Carlos Minc, and representatives from the cities of Angra dos Reis, Parati and Mangaratiba decided to open a public hearing to present the general plan for the future conservation unit.

The goal is to gather suggestions from both companies operating in the region as fishermen and shellfish farmers. "We want to plan and match compatibility between multiple activities. Oil and shipyards cannot kill the fishing, and tourism cannot threaten endangered species. Last year alone, 32 Estuarine Dolphins were found dead,” Secretary Minc stated.
