The general director of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), Magda Chambriard, and Secretary of Environment in Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Minc, defended the use of satellites to monitor areas of oil exploration on the high seas as a measure to prevent new spills.

"We are able to operate in the subsalt, but we have to expand and improve our ability to control monitoring, inspection and supervision of operations," said Minc.

Another idea is to add information to the Brazilian Institute for the Environment (IBAMA) site about geological studies of the area to be explored as well as the technical profile about the professionals and the equipment used in possible accidents.
