After the recent oil spills in the Campos Basin off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, the region will be the target of an international external audit. The measure will be part of the National Contingency Plan, which will be signed by President Rousseff, with the objective of outlining a plan for cases of environmental accidents.

The Secretary for the Environment in Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Minc, has talked with leaders of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), the Brazilian Institute for the Environment (IBAMA) and the Navy about the audit. "It will be done using technical criteria established by the regulatory agencies and the environmental agency, with the cost being covered by the oil companies," said Minc.
