Regulatory News

The general director of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), Magda Chambriard, announced that the regulating agency intends to increase the required amount of fines in cases of leaks by 30. Today the maximum charge is R$5 million (Brazilian currency). The idea is that in case of major accidents, those responsible will have to pay up to R$150 million.

The ANP has sent the proposal with the change to the Ministry of Mines and Energy. According to Magda Chambriard, the need to raise the value of sanctions became clear after the spill of 2,400 barrels of Chevron oil Chevron in Frade Field in the Campos Basin, Rio de Janeiro coast, in November last year.
