A report from the Federal Police Institute of Criminology concluded that the oil spill from Chevron in November last year in the Campos Basin, off the Rio de Janeiro coast, did not cause damage to marine life. According to the document, there was no record of a species dying or in poor health because of the accident.

Responsible for the prosecution against the oil company, the federal prosecutor Carlos Eduardo Oliveira Santos said it had taken note of the report, but stressed that the document did not invalidate the findings of the environmental agencies that have found damage to the ecosystem.
