The Brazilian government has closed the purchase of three patrol vessels manufactured in England for R$400 million (US$198 million). The goal, according to the Ministry of Defense, is to strengthen the protection of natural resources in the Atlantic Ocean, especially the oil reserves in the subsalt.

The ships sail at high speed, and are capable of spending 35 days at sea. According to the Navy, the monitoring system also includes the means for fighting against fishing without a license and monitoring of oil spills.
