The estuarine dolphin (sotalia guianensis), a species that lives along almost the entire Brazilian coast, is being studied by a group of researchers that for over ten years has been dedicated to following the lives of about 200 animals living in the Cananeia region, on the coast of Sao Paulo. The members of the Grey Dolphin Project make a point of not interfering in the routine of cetaceans to observe their behavior.

In the survey, all dolphins are regularly photographed. To differentiate one from the other, scholars observe small scratches in different formats or fins. In the region of Cananeia, the greatest threat to these animals is accidental capture by fishing nets.
