The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) released a report that shows the impact on the fauna from the large amount of garbage dumped into the ocean. According to the study, between 57,000 and 135,000 animals - including whales, seals and turtles - are affected by the release of waste such as plastic bags, tapes, ropes and nets.

Turtles, for example, often ingest plastic bags, which can lead to their death by suffocation in minutes. And whales have been injured when entangled in fishing nets. Even birds suffer from the garbage. The survey showed that many birds that live in the North Sea have been found with plastic pieces inside them.
