In Balneario Camboriu, a city on the coast of Santa Catarina, biologists, veterinarians and professionals involved in the search and rescue of cetaceans participated in the 2nd Workshop on mapping the biodiversity of aquatic mammals off the Brazilian coast. The purpose of the meeting was to standardize information on animals being stranded or beached and to contribute to the decision-making process for the preservation of the species.

"The event was important because it allowed a full view of strandings throughout the Brazilian coast and it also put forth the best way to insert this data into a national system to facilitate access to information,” said Milton Marcondes, research director for the Humpback Whale Institute.
