The Brazilian Institute of the Environment (IBAMA) granted an operating license for Petrobras to start oil exploration off the coast of two northeastern states, Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. The wells are located in the Potiguar Basin, about 45 km off the coast, and reach depths ranging from 1400 to 2094 meters. According to the environmental impact report by Petrobras, the operation in the region includes the set-up for the production unit, drilling and future decommissioning of the platform, with the shift to another location.
