On Wednesday, the 27th the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) opened a set of three laboratories for conducting research on the subsalt. With an investment of R$17 million ($8.5 million), the Interdisciplinary Center for Fluid Dynamics (NIDF) aims to create new techniques which have a lower cost than the current one to extract oil from deep waters.

The core functions in an area of 5,500 square meters within the Coordination of Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering (Coppe) from UFRJ. There, specialists work in chemistry, physics, electro-mechanics, petroleum engineering and other areas. Even before the inauguration of the three laboratories, they have already received requests for research equivalent to three times the value of the investment for the creation of NIDF.
