Three years after the spill of nearly 5 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, the Florida government announced it has filed a lawsuit against British Petroleum for the damages caused by the spill. Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi had already filed suits against the oil company.

Oil reached more than 1.7 km of the coast of the four states. According to environmentalists, contaminated micro-organisms affect the entire food chain. "Even large predators have been affected. In these three years, more than 650 dolphins were found dead," said David Muth of the Mississippi River Delta Restoration Program.
