Beekeepers on the outskirts of Manaus, capital of Amazonas state, could improve the production of fruit like pineapple, coconut, acai, graviola annatto with the aid of native stingless bees of the genus Melipona, typical of the region. They are the main pollinators of the Amazonian forest.

According to the creators, in addition to increased production, another advantage is that the fruits born of this process are sweeter. The honey produced by native bees is also sweeter and nutritious compared to the African honeybee, which are the most common.

The use of native bees also helps reverse the effects of deforestation. The insects fly from flower to flower, carrying pollen, which promotes the reproduction of plants.
