Last month, a public hearing in the House discussed the mortality of bees and their effects in Brazil. The Secretary of Biodiversity and Forests, Ministry of the Environment, Roberto Cavalcanti, defended the union between agriculture and beekeeping, since bees contribute to increased productivity of cultivated areas.

Data from the Brazilian Confederation of Beekeepers (CBA) indicate that agribusiness has a gain of 20% in production due to natural pollination of bees and birds. The mortality of these insects is a global phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder.
