Beekeepers in the city of São João da Canabrava, in the state of Piaui in northeastern Brazil, are facing losses because of the prolonged drought. It hasn’t rained in the city for nine months. There are no leaves or flowers, and because of this, bees are dying for lack of food.

To keep their businesses, many bee farmers had to transport bees to the neighboring state ofMaranhao. Approximately 5300 colonies were taken from Piaui.
