Eight whales have been found dead on the coast of Ghana, Africa since September. The cause of death is still unknown, but environmental groups point to oil industry growth in the country as a strong possibility. Carcasses appeared close to deposits like Jubilee, discovered in 2007 in the Atlantic Ocean.

According to Patrick Ramage of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), water pollution, collisions with boats and seismic activity related to oil drilling can disorient or kill whales. "There is increased fear about what is killing the whales," says Kyei Kwadwo Yamoah, coordinator of the Non-Governmental Organization, Friends of the Nation.
