A total of 59 pieces of plastic totaling a weight of 20 kilos was in the stomach of a whale found dead last week in Helling, on the coast of Holland. According to the autopsy report, the majority of the residue was from material used in greenhouses, where tomatoes and other products are grown.

The animal found dead weighed 50 tons and was 14 meters long. In March last year, another whale died on the coast of Andalusia, in Spain, after ingesting plastic used in greenhouses.

According to the German Society of Wildlife Protection, more than a million birds and 100,000 marine mammals die every year due to plastic material thrown into the sea.
