A study developed by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) showed that stingless bees, called Meliponidae produce honey with a higher content of sugar and therefore is more palatable. Beekeepers sell the product for up to five times higher than ordinary honey price.

To those responsible for creating this type of bee, there is yet another advantage. Since the insect has no sting, it is unnecessary to wear special clothes or use fumigators, equipment that throws smoke into the air and ensures greater protection around bee colonies. Without the danger of bee stings, beekeepers can maintain bee colonies near other animals.
