The hacker group, Anonymous released a message with threats against Japan due to the annual dolphin hunt in the town of Taiji on the east coast of Japan. The city became known for the death of aquatic mammals with the 2010 Oscar winning documentary, The Cove.

In the threat, the group listed 22 Japanese sites as targets for potential attacks, including that of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the town of Taiji, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Anonymous is demanding immediate discontinuation of the dolphin massacres.
