The non-governmental organization Sea Shepherd released three images of minke whales (Balaenoptera Acutorostrata) dead on the deck of the Japanese ship Nisshin Maru. According to the organization, the vessel hunts mammals in the Antarctica.

After signing international agreements, Japan assumed the commitment to fish whales for scientific purposes only. But according to environmentalists, the scientific program is a cover for commercial whaling with whale meat being sold in Japan.
