During an inspection of a factory of frozen products, Taiwan police seized 7.65 tons of dolphin meat, which corresponds to at least 150 dolphins. The owner of the establishment, who claimed to have purchased the product from fishermen, could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and pay a fine of $50,000 for violation of laws protecting wildlife.

Although eating dolphin and whale meat is a tradition among residents of the coast of Taiwan who consider the food good for health, since 1989 a law for the protection of all cetaceans has been in effect.
