Regulatory News

During an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday, January 23, the CEO of the Swiss company Syngenta, Michael Mack, criticized the EU’s decision to ban the use of some pesticides on the continent that could be responsible for killing bees. According to Mr. Mack, the measure appears to be “political in its intent.”

The executive said that the findings of a study by the European Food Safety Authority, which indicates that the use of pesticides known as neonicotinoids is an "acute risk" to bees, cannot be proven by the data obtained in the field. According to him, it is a "misuse of science." The ban was supported by countries like Germany, France and Holland.
