Regulatory News

Statements from the new U.S. ambassador to Japan, Caroline Kennedy – the only surviving offspring of John and Jackeline Kennedy - have caused unrest among the rulers of the Asian country. Assuming the post two months ago, she used Twitter to criticize the traditional dolphin hunt in the village of Taiji, a practice that has been called "inhumane.” Japanese authorities did not like the statement, claiming that the practice was an ancient local tradition.

The mayor of Taiji, Kazutaka Sangen, said dolphin fishing is essential to the survival of the village population. Environmentalists who oppose the hunt say that just last week, 250 dolphins were captured and at least 40 were killed.
