Even in the face of protests from environmentalists, the city Minamiboso on the east coast of Japan started whaling season with an exhibition for students and residents of the animals caught and killed and distributing free samples of fried meat. The Japanese government argues that whale meat is a traditional food in the country.

The event takes place annually in Minamiboso. This time, showing the dead cetaceans caused controversy because children witnessed the animals being sliced. The whaling season goes until the end of August.
