Opened at the start of July, humpback whale watching season in the Abrolhos Marine National Park, on the coast of Bahia, is expected to last until November. It is this time of year that these aquatic mammals leave the Antarctic, where they feed, and reach the Brazilian coast for breeding. Tourists can take boat trips to photograph the cetaceans.

Last year, about 14,000 whales visited Abrolhos during the season. The expectation for this year - when the species left the list of endangered species in the country - is expected to reach 20,000.
