A report in The Wall Street Journal revealed that the campaign against the captivity of 23 orcas at SeaWorld has led to a negative impact on revenues of the famous American water park. In the first half of the year, SeaWorld had a profit of $37.3 million, $15.9 million less than the same period last year.

In a statement, the group that manages the waterpark acknowledged that the number of attendees has dropped due to "pressure related to the media attention in relation to the proposed change in California legislation." Two California representatives proposed a federal study on the upkeep of large marine mammals in captivity, citing "serious concerns about the physical and psychological damage" to orcas.
