Earlier this month the UK launched a new plan to increase the amount of bees in Britain: the National Strategy for Pollinators. The aim is to increase their numbers for the fertilization of plants. "Almost a third of the food we eat is pollinated by bees - from apples to pears and from strawberries to beans," said Secretary of Environment, Liz Truss.

The idea is that both large land owners and domestic gardeners participate in the campaign. Among the ideas presented are planting native flowers from the regions and ask people to let the grass grow in their gardens. It is estimated that over the past 25 years, the number of bees and other pollinators has fallen by half in the UK.
