A study published in the journal Cell, one of the most respected in the world, shows the first results from research seeking to discover the 'formula' for longevity in the genes of whales. The work began with the genome sequencing of Bowhead Whales, longest-living mammals on the planet which can live up to 200 years.

Scientists have discovered, for example, that the whales have greater resistance to cancer, even with having thousands of cells more than humans - which could increase the chances of developing the disease. The researchers also found differences related to aging genes between the bowhead whales and the minke whales, which live only 50 years.
