Correct management of hives can increase honey production by up to 17 times, according to expert estimates. One technique is to place the hives near various species of flowers, thus ensuring adequate food for bees.

Among the necessary measures are the use of protective clothing and the use of smokers, which make the bees slower. Also important is changing the queen bee, the only fertile female in a colony. Since her reproductive potential drops starting in the second year, changing the queen bee at the end of the first year is critical to maintaining productivity.
