A brewery using whale bones, organs and even testicles, in Iceland caused an uproar among groups advocating the preservation of aquatic mammals. The sale of the product was temporarily suspended by health authorities, but then was permitted to recommence. Environmentalists rated this kind of beer production as "disrespectful and immoral."

The small brewery Stedji started up last year and u whale testicles, which are cured, salted and smoked to give a different flavor to the beer. Since 2013, Iceland returned to authorizing whaling of common species. Most of the meat is exported to Japan.
