In order to make Paris an example of a city aware of the importance of bees in preserving the environment, city councilor Edith Gallois proposed the creation of a kind of bee friendly seal for sites that install hives in parks and on roofs that have the right kind of plants for pollination.

Today, Paris has about 300 apiaries on buildings roofs, some of them historical like the Grand Palais and the Opera Garnier, which is producing a 100% organic honey which is among the most expensive kinds on the planet. Urban Beekeepers argue that, in large cities, the hives are less subject to dangerous pesticides for the survival of bees.
