Twelve whales died stranded in the Bay of Bunbury, 175 kilometers south of Perth, Australia. Volunteers and biologists managed to rescue ten whales, which were part of the group, trapped near a dam.

The rescue was a major operation and the saved whales managed to swim towards the sea. The cause of the stranding is still unknown. The bodies of aquatic mammals that died were quickly removed to prevent sharks from approaching the site.
