About 150 melon headed dolphins were found stranded on a beach in the town of Hokota, 100 kilometers northeast of Tokyo, Japan. Despite the efforts of the Coast Guard and volunteers trying to return them to the sea, the dolphins eventually died.

According to residents, it is common to see one or two dolphins stranded in the region, but it was the first time that so many came at the same time. The aquatic mammals had several injuries and did not have the strength to swim against the strong current that pushed them back to the beach.
