An open-air beehive nursery opened last week in Ribeirao Preto, in Sao Paulo, has a goal of raising awareness on the importance of bees in keeping the environment balanced. Created with the support of an agribusiness company in the industry, the site works inside the city zoo and offers practical lessons to public school students.

There are four species of stingless bees in the zoo that are native to tropical countries and present in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. There is no need to wear special clothes for the class, and students learn that insects are essential in the pollination of crops in the region, including such vegetables as tomatoes, eggplant and cucumbers - a sustainable agricultural practice.
