After five years, bottlenose dolphins were again sighted near the archipelago Cagarras, located near Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro. The sighting was confirmed by researcher Liliane Lodi, who works on the River Islands project, which has monitored the site for 12 years.

According to the researcher, ten dolphins - two being female - were seen in the archipelago in recent weeks. As the islands are very close to a coastline with a great amount of movement of people and boats, she has suggested that surveillance be intensified, especially against jet-skis pursuing the animals.
