According to the BBC, police in Wales have recorded an increase in the number of cases of bee theft. In less than a month, beekeeper Katie Haywood suffered two burglaries on her property on the Anglesey Island. In all, the thieves stole approximately 45,000 bees, including four queen bees.

The criminals’ objective for breaking into the apiaries, according to police, was not to steal honey, but to steal the bees themselves. The goal was to form new hives, and make money due to the difficulty of getting new colonies because of bee deaths, which also affect the United Kingdom.
