In order to encourage the production of stingless bees in the state of Mato Grosso, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) – in connection with the Ministry of Agriculture – built, in Sinop, 500 km from the capital Cuiaba, an apiary, which produces, preserves and multiplies these insect species. Although the European and African bees produce a greater amount of honey, honey from stingless bees has more quality and worth up to five times more.

The idea of EMBRAPA is that people start to produce stingless bees at home, since they represent no danger to beekeepers. In addition to generating extra income for families, production is beneficial to the environment because it helps in pollination and biodiversity of the region.
