Owners of two aircraft were fined for running overflights below 100 meters above the Environmental Protection Area for Right Whales in Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil. The law prohibits harassment of any cetacean species on the Brazilian coast. The infraction was spotted by agents of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), which is linked to the Ministry of Environment.

The aircraft were photographed at a very low altitude and identified through prefixes registered by the National Civil Aviation Agency. The owners will have to pay a fine of R$10,000 in Brazilian currency (equivalent to US$2600).
