Chilean researchers reported that 337 dead whales have been found since April in a far-away bay in the Chilean Patagonia region. This is the biggest case of cetacean stranding sever recorded.

Initially, researchers located about 20 sei whales, each one about 10 meters long in the northern Gulf of Penas, 2000 km south of Santiago. Two months later, a team from the Huinay Science Center conducted a flyover in the area and found that the number of dead whales was much higher. Due to the difficulty in reaching the site, it is possible that more carcasses may be found.
