An orca was found dead on the sands of Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, and in studying the cause of her death, experts were stunned and saddened. Inside the 5.7-meter female's stomach, were loads of trash: plastic bags, yoghurt pots, noodle packaging and shoe leather, among other things.

The debris from the digestive tract suggests that, due to a shortage of their usual prey (such as fish and other aquatic mammals), the whale was trying to feed in shallow waters. The Orca’s organs and blood samples will undergo toxicology exams.
