Regulatory News

The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) has created a team of four researchers to encourage and guide beekeepers in the states of Piaui and Maranhao to diversify production. The goal is to help farmers increase incomes and create jobs by not only producing honey, but also propolis and pollen.

With a large demand in the international market, propolis is a resin collected by bees from the trees. It has wide use in the pharmaceutical industry because of its healing properties, ant-fungal and bacteria properties and antioxidants. Bee pollen is high in protein, minerals and vitamins, and can be used as a food supplement and mixed with honey, in capsules or tablets.
