Three dolphins were found dead during the month of January at different points on the coast of São Paulo. Biologists suspect that two of them had been victims of pollution and the third, of fishing.

The first case occurred near the town of Mamangua where the dolphin had run aground and was found with injuries and a plastic bag in his mouth. The second, a rough-toothed female species, died close to the beach of Itanhaém. She had abrasions probably caused by fishing nets. The last dolphin was found located near the city of Santos. Experts say he had ingested large amounts of pollution.
