Almost half of the 45,000 tons of honey produced annually in Brazil have a destination: outside the country. Success in foreign markets is mostly due to organic honey, which is more valued, being exported. Since 2014, the country has moved from 11th to eighth in the world ranking of exporters of the product. The main buyers are China, Argentina and Vietnam.

However, domestic consumption of honey is still considered low in the country. On average, every Brazilian consumes about 160 grams per year. In the United States and Europe, per capita consumption is 1.8 kg per year.
