The company that manages SeaWorld parks in the United States announced that it will suspend the breeding program of orcas in captivity. There are twenty-nine orcas in the parks and they will be the last, according to the company. The decision was celebrated by animal advocacy groups such as the Humane Society in the United States (HSUS).

The CEO of SeaWorld, Joel Manby, said the company will increase the focus on supporting rescue operations for aquatic mammals such as dolphins and sea lions, which become stranded and are unable to be released before treatment. The orcas display shows will also be canceled.
