Activists defending animal rights started mobilization against the project to take a group of dolphins to the Arizona desert. According to the British newspaper The Guardian, more than 100,000 people signed a petition against the plan to build a station called 'Dolphinaris,' near Scottsdale, where aquatic mammals would live in pools and swim with tourists.

The company Ventura Entertainment, which already manages five 'Dolphinaris stations in Mexico, plans to expand to the United States. Coordinator of marine issues the NGO Humane Society, Sharon Young criticized the project: "These animals are used to swimming hundreds of miles in a diverse and rich environment. When they are placed in a tank, their existence is impoverished."
